Quick 1–N or a custom number range?
Quick 1 to N is for a list that starts at 1. Enter the last number in How many numbers? and press Create 1–N. Entering 20 creates every whole number from 1–20; 36 creates 1–36; 100 creates 1–100. These are separate wheel entries, not a single number chosen when you create the list. Press Spin to make the draw.
Use Number range when your list starts elsewhere. Set Minimum to 10 and Maximum to 25, then press Apply range to create 10–25. Both endpoints are included, so this example has 16 entries. The controls only replace the wheel when you submit them; changing an input alone does not change the saved entries.
Creating or applying a range replaces the current entry list, including any edits to its labels. Check the list before spinning. Range changes and Clear results are unavailable during a spin.
Practical ranges, including zero and negatives
- 1–20: number twenty classroom prompts and use Quick 1 to N with 20 to choose a starting prompt.
- 1–36: enter 36 for thirty-six numbered items. This is a number-selection wheel, not a simulation of another game's rules.
- 1–100: enter 100 to select from one hundred numbered options. With unchanged entries and equal odds, each has a 1% chance.
- 0–9: use Minimum 0 and Maximum 9 for all ten digits, including zero.
- −5–5: use Minimum −5 and Maximum 5 for eleven whole numbers spanning negative, zero and positive values.
A wheel holds at most 500 entries. Quick 1 to N accepts whole numbers from 1 to 500; custom ranges also accept zero and negative endpoints, but their total size must fit the same limit. Decimal endpoints and numbers outside the safe integer range are rejected. If custom endpoints are reversed, Apply range puts them in ascending order and reports that they were swapped.
Understanding odds, weights and repeats
With Weighted odds off, each active entry has an equal chance. A fresh 1–20 list therefore gives each number a 5% chance. Editing labels, adding duplicates or hiding entries changes what the wheel represents: two active entries with the same label count as two chances, not one distinct number.
With Weighted odds on, an entry's chance is its weight divided by the total active weight. For example, weights of 2, 1 and 1 give chances of 50%, 25% and 25%. Slice sizes follow those weights. Review the displayed chances after editing entries or settings rather than assuming the original range still describes the draw.
Normal mode allows a number to return on a later spin. Elimination mode hides selected entries from subsequent draws. Multiple picks in one draw select distinct active entries without replacement; duplicate labels can still look like repeated numbers. Clear results removes the current result and history, not entries, weights, hidden states or range inputs.
An accessible draw, with a secure selection method
Use the labelled inputs and keyboard-accessible Spin button without needing to click a moving slice. The wheel respects reduced-motion preferences, and the sound control lets you mute effects. Results remain available as text; neither animation nor sound is required to read the selected number.
The browser's cryptographic random generator selects the result; the wheel animation reveals it rather than deciding it. Equal odds and weighted odds both use rejection sampling to avoid a biased remainder when sampling random integers. This is a selection method, not a promise of a particular sequence or evenly spaced results.
Number picker questions
Does entering 36 immediately pick a number?
No. Press Create 1–N to load entries 1 through 36, then Spin to select from the wheel. Merely typing 36 leaves the current list unchanged.
Are both custom range bounds included?
Yes. Minimum 0 and Maximum 3 create 0, 1, 2 and 3. Matching bounds, such as 7 and 7, create just one entry; that entry is the only possible pick while it remains active.
Why can't I generate 1–1,000?
That would require 1,000 entries, beyond the 500-entry wheel limit. Choose a smaller complete range. An invalid request leaves the existing wheel intact and shows an explanation.
How do I avoid picking the same number again?
Use Elimination mode with one entry per number. Winners become hidden for later spins. Normal mode permits repeats, and clearing history alone does not reset eligibility.
Can I clear results without rebuilding my range?
Yes. Clear results removes the selected result and stored history while preserving the wheel and its settings. It does not restore hidden entries or replace edited labels with the original numbers.
For calendar choices, use the Date Picker. For people rather than numbers, try the Wheel of Names. For just two possible answers, choose Yes/No.
